Maryam Nawaz Accuses CJP Umar Ata Bandial during her Address outside Supreme Court:
May 15, 2023 | Islamabad –: In a charged rally held outside the Supreme Court, Maryam Nawaz, Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has accused Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial of politicizing the judiciary and assuming the role of a spokesperson for Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In her address to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) gathering, Maryam asserted that the chief justice has tarnished the judiciary’s reputation by selectively granting relief to Imran Khan in various cases. She further claimed that the chief justice has not upheld the rule of law, but rather acted as a protective shield for the PTI chairman.
Maryam denounced the chief justice for failing the people of Pakistan and disappointing their trust. She vowed that the PDM would persist with its protest until Umar Ata Bandial stepped down from his position.
Maryam said that the chief justice had “tarnished” the image of the judiciary and had “disappointed” the people of Pakistan.
She said that the PDM would continue its protest until the chief justice resigned.
Maryam‘s accusations came a day after the Supreme Court declared the arrest of Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case as “illegal” and ordered his immediate release.
The PTI chairman had been arrested on May 9 by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) premises.
The PDM had called for a protest outside the Supreme Court on Monday to express its anger over the chief justice’s “selective relief” to Imran Khan.
The protest was attended by thousands of people, including PML-N leaders Shehbaz Sharif, Hamza Shehbaz, Khawaja Asif, Marriyum Aurangzeb, and others.
The protesters chanted slogans against the chief justice and demanded his resignation.
Maryam Nawaz said that the chief justice had “failed” to uphold the rule of law and had “become a shield” for Imran Khan.
She said that the chief justice had “tarnished” the image of the judiciary and had “disappointed” the people of Pakistan.
